Pesticide residues in natural raw materials for cosmetic industry

IPEC-ISPS advocates for the safety of all products in cosmetics, personal, and health care products, including those used in phytotherapy. Plant-based products may be contaminated by synthetic control chemicals used in crop production processes. These chemicals include herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides. The impact of these chemicals is kept below concern levels in organic farming and use of the natural and bio-pesticides is encouraged. Producers of plant-based natural products need to identify and reduce the contamination risks. The success of such efforts is determined by accurate measurement of residual contaminants using the appropriate analytical methodology to obtain increased safety.
